Design Engineer - Hydraulics

As a key member of the Hydraulics Design Team, you will contribute to new product development across Versatile’s diverse product lines, from initial concept to prototyping and final production. Additionally, you will offer essential support for existing products. We are in search of a motivated professional with a background in agricultural equipment design and/or hydraulic systems.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop innovative designs and enhance existing hydraulic systems for Versatile equipment, including component selection and comprehensive system design. Responsibilities also encompass sheet metal design for securing and shielding hydraulic components.
  • Generate CAD models and detailed drawings for individual components and extensive assemblies.
  • Lead prototype development by managing component orders and coordinating with the R&D shop for prototype builds.
  • Draft test plans for prototype tractors/systems to ensure design specifications are met, collaborating with the Test Engineering team for execution.
  • Implement design modifications based on feedback from prototype assembly and testing outcomes.
  • Issue Engineering Change Orders for new and updated designs to transition into production seamlessly.
  • Collaborate with departments like Production, Purchasing, Service, Quality, and R&D to address and support current production challenges.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses for various design alternatives to assess their practicality.
  • Work autonomously and within a team to meet project deadlines consistently.
  • Engage in hands-on work periods in the shop to aid in assembly and testing processes.
  • Provide support for the production line as required.
  • Make occasional site visits to farms and other testing locations.


Job Requirements:


  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or an MET Diploma, with active membership in a recognized professional engineering/technologist association.
  • A minimum of 3 years in design, with a preference for experience in hydraulics and/or mobile equipment.
  • Familiarity with ASABE, ISO, and SAE standards.
  • Proficient CAD skills for creating 3D models and 2D drawings, preferably using Autodesk Inventor 2023.
  • Competence with PDM systems, such as Autodesk Vault.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Mechanical acumen and practical hands-on skills are highly regarded.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to articulate and comprehend complex technical concepts.
  • The capacity to manage multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic work environment with strict deadlines.
  • Effective information gathering and organizational abilities.
  • An innovative mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • A robust work ethic.
