Purchasing Manager

The Purchasing Manager oversees and directs a team of inhouse Buyers. Working closely with the production, manufacturing, quality assurance and engineering functions the Purchasing Manager works to ensure optimum quality, pricing and delivery of components (correct quantity, quality, pricing and delivery schedules). The Purchasing Manager has responsibility for the development and maintenance of commodities and vendors, continuously focused on reducing the total cost of the finished products and on time delivery. The Purchasing Manager utilizes thorough analyses combined with experience, judgment and skilled negotiation to accomplish departmental goals and to meet performance targets set by management.


  • Manage and direct all Production Buyers
  • Effectively communicate supply chain information throughout the organization
  • Ensure a continuous supply of components to production
  • Maintain and develop vendor relationships (including supplier knowledge, technology, business structure, sales personnel, strengths and weaknesses)
  • Process requisitions for new components, review and evaluate quotations and select vendors
  • Negotiate price reductions and resolve disputes with existing vendors on a continual basis
  • Maintain complete and accurate records
  • Communicate and enforce quality requirements with vendors
  • Work with Engineering on new designs and order prototype parts when required
  • Work with vendors to determine tooling requirements and minimize cost
  • Maintain competency through ongoing skills development
  • Conduct tenders as required
  • Cost reduction strategies



Job Requirements:



  • Post -Secondary education is preferred.
  • Completion or current enrollment in CPP or other professional designation is preferred
  • Five (5) or more years of previous senior level management purchasing experience
  • Previous experience in a purchasing role in the Agricultural industry or other large mobile type of equipment
  • Background in the manufacturing industry either in agricultural equipment or other large mechanical equipment industry
  • Analytical thinker. Strong vendor negotiating skills
  • Superb communication ability, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office as asset (Word and Excel). AS400 is an asset
  • Strategic planning experience. Focus on cost savings
  • International sourcing background. Negotiation of rates etc.
  • Knowledge of ISO is a definite asset
